Humans are curious by nature, and learning through instruction is essential to human development and survival. Yet learning is never value-neutral - what we learn, how we learn, and what motivates us to learn all reflect underlying value hierarchies.

In this session with Philip Eldred, drawing on recent work in cognitive science, we'll explore how learning is fundamentally an act of valuing, examine how common educational approaches can unintentionally reinforce disordered values, and consider practical ways to ensure that teaching consistently supports the I>E>S value hierarchy through attention, agency, and meaningful engagement
